With the Easter holidays fast approaching, how do you keep the whole family happy for two weeks without breaking the bank? Here are some exciting places to take the family for a great day out this Easter to suit all budgets.
Stockwood Discovery Centre
Set in beautiful classical gardens in Luton, the Stockwood Discovery Centre has been designed with the environment and sustainability in mind. It’s a great place for all ages to while away a few hours, telling the stories of the real people behind the archaeology, geology, social history and rural craft collections all set out in wonderful displays. For those that enjoy being outdoors, there are beautiful displays to enjoy whether it’s in the Sensory Garden, the Period Gardens, the Medicinal Garden, the Wildlife Garden or the World Gardens & Green House. There really is something for everyone to enjoy, and best of all, entry is totally free!
Dunstable Downs and the Gateway Centre
The beautiful Dunstable Downs are famous for kite flying and its gliding school, and if you take a visit you’ll know straight away why it has the title of ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. You can also stop at The Gateway Centre at the top of the Downs where you can watch the wildlife, fly your kite, have a picnic or just go for a walk. There is a Gift Shop and a cafe where you can sit and marvel at the stunning views. With free parking, this is an ideal place to take the children to burn off some energy.
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo
The UK’s biggest zoo and safari park, this is a full and fun day out for all the family. Take the car inside or leave it in the free parking. The zoo has a wide selection of different animals to see as well as cafes, a train and play area. Entry costs are reasonable for a full day of entertainment.
Verulamium, St Albans
An interesting and educational day out, this is a museum recreating life in the Roman city of Verulamium, with Roman theatre ruins just three minutes’ walk away. Family activities, events and free activity sheets will keep the kids occupied for hours. You can also explore the remains of the old Roam town and a short stroll across Verulamium Park will lead you to a beautiful Roman mosaic. There’s also a beautiful lake with plenty of wildlife and children’s play areas to explore.

Knebworth House, Harpenden
Take a visit to the beautiful historic house and gardens at Knebworth. Children will be kept entertained in the adventure playground and on the dinosaur trail.Knebworth Park offers a great day out for all the family, with fun activities for children and lots to do for all ages.There is free parking and a reasonable entry fee.
Knebworth House is open from 25 Mar – 24 Sep 2017 on weekends and during school holidays. Please check opening times before your visit.
